On the 14 July 2015 DiversCity in Law won the ‘Inclusive Recruitment Award’ at the Employers Network for Equality and Inclusion (enei) awards ceremony, which too place at The Law Society, London.

Patrick McCann, one of the founders of DiversCity in Law, said ‘winning the Inclusive Recruitment Award at the ENEI awards is a fantastic achievement, especially for an event that was only created in 2011. Our success has been down to the hard work and dedication shown by all law firms involved, which has grown from just 2 to 11 in four years. Working equally in partnership with other City Law firms has been key to our events success”

“We will look to build on our success by ensuring the legal profession within the City of London is seen as an attractive career option for all, regardless of a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity”, said Patrick.

In 2014, nine law firms, Baker McKenzie, Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP), Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF), Hogan Lovells, Olswang, Pinsent Masons, Reynolds Porter Chamberlain and Taylor Wessing, collaborated to arrange and host ‘DiversCity’; a unique recruitment event aimed at raising awareness of pursuing a legal career in the City amongst lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students at degree and postgraduate level. The legal sector has previously been perceived as less inclusive by the LGBT community. Recognising the importance of diversity in organisations, the need to promote an inclusive environment and attract future lawyers from an underrepresented pool of talent, BLP & HSF created the first DiversCity event in 2011 and invited other firms to participate.

Denise Keating, chief executive, enei commented: “The enei Annual Awards recognise the commitment of organisations to achieving diverse and inclusive workplaces, celebrating the teams and individuals who really are making a difference. We have been encouraged by the steps these organisations have taken to promote equality and diversity and hope this will encourage other companies to follow their lead. There were over 90 applications for the awards this year and we are delighted that so many organisations are prepared to publicly demonstrate best practice and have been publicly recognised for the innovative work they are doing.”
